Privacy

What this site collects, and what it doesn’t.

Short version: this site runs Google Analytics, so we know which pages people actually read, and nothing else of its own — no accounts, no advertising trackers, nothing sold or shared. The donation form is the exception. It is Zeffy’s, and it loads Zeffy’s own analytics and advertising services — listed below by name.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people use, so we know what is worth writing more about. It sets cookies and sends Google your IP address, your device and browser, and the pages you open. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not combine it with anything else.

You can switch it off for every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or by turning on your browser’s own tracking protection. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

The donation form

The donate page carries a donation form provided by Zeffy, embedded from zeffy.com. The form loads only when you scroll down to it. Once it loads, Zeffy receives your IP address and browser details even if you do not donate — and so do the services Zeffy builds into its form.

When we checked on 11 September 2026, the form loaded these, grouped by what they are for:

  • Payment and security — Stripe, Google Pay, hCaptcha.
  • Zeffy’s analytics, including session recording — Amplitude, Microsoft Clarity, HubSpot, Datadog, Cloudflare Web Analytics.
  • Advertising and marketing pixels — Meta (Facebook), LinkedIn, Google Ads, Microsoft Bing, HubSpot.
  • Other — Google Maps (address lookup), Canny, Stytch.

These run inside Zeffy’s frame, under Zeffy’s privacy policy. We do not receive what they collect and we cannot switch them off. Your browser’s tracking protection will block most of them without stopping the form from working. If you would rather avoid all of it, post a check instead — the donate page says how.

If you do donate, Zeffy handles the payment and your card details go to them, not to us. We never see or store card numbers. We receive your name, the amount and your contact details so that we can thank you and issue a receipt. Zeffy has its own privacy policy covering what it does with the payment data.

What we do not do

There are no contact forms, no newsletter sign-up and no accounts on this website. The site itself carries no advertising, no advertising trackers and no affiliate links — the pixels listed above come with Zeffy’s form, not from us. We do not sell, rent or share anything about you.

If you contact us, adopt or foster

If you email us, we keep what you send only so that we can answer you. If you apply to adopt or foster, we keep your application and agreement because New York requires licensed rescues to keep adoption and foster records, and we keep them no longer than that requires. We do not sell, rent or share any of it.

If you ask for a donation receipt we keep a record of that donation for as long as tax rules require, and no longer.

Fonts and files

The typefaces and images are served from our own domain rather than a font or image CDN. Apart from Google Analytics and the Zeffy form on the donate page, reading this site contacts nobody but us.
